Project Brief
Willmott Dixon Interiors has delivered the complex structural refurbishment of the iconic Grade II-listed Civic Hall and Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton city centre.
Project Solution
The team have delivered essential structural, engineering and electrical works as part of the full refurbishment of the building. They include the introduction of impressive new spectator galleries at the Civic Hall and Wulfrun Hall, which has increased the combined capacity of the venue to 5,000. Modifications have also been made to the height above the stage to the rear of the Civic Hall to attract bigger shows, while there is more comfortable seating, improved social spaces and a greater number of accessible viewing points.
In the region of 600 tonnes of new steelwork has been added to the building to support new seating areas, including c.1,300 separate pieces of rigging, bracing, rebar and secondary steels.New façade works have been delivered to all elevations of the Civic Hall, while a variety of original features have been retained and restored to their 1930’s condition, including feature terrazzo flooring in the main lobby.
Works included a partial demolition and strip out of the building, with new foundations and drainage installed within both Halls, as well as new plant and LV substation rooms.
The project was procured via the Scape National Construction framework. on behalf of the City of Wolverhampton Council and was delivered alongside a project team that included Faithful+Gould, Furness and Space and Place.
