Project Brief
St Michael’s Hospital in Warwick provides a full range of expanding physical, mental health and learning disability services to children, young adults, adults and older adults over many sites across Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull on behalf of Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust.
Following the success of the refurbishment of Rosewood Terrace and Hazelwood at St Michael’s Hospital in Warwick, our team have completed the latest phase to modernise two more mental health rehabilitation units.
This project saw the modernisation of nearly 25,000 sq ft over a 22-week programme, with the unit providing psychiatric intensive care for male and female service users.
Project Solution
The anti-ligature refurbishment of the Rowan and Willowvale wards will deliver an improved experience for NHS patients and keep vulnerable people safe from harm.
We’ve delivered therapeutic environments that maintain patient welfare by focusing on elements such as appropriate paint colours (e.g. colour can act as a trigger for people with dementia/autism and relying on swatches is unreliable). We tested the approach in specific rooms, where clinicians/matrons/ward managers were invited to view the aesthetics in-person.
Our programme schedules/activities were designed to limit the disruption/risk patients were exposed to e.g. established working patterns, noisy works to set spaces, battery powered tools used wherever possible.
Project Outline

- Adaptations to power, data, access control services
- Upgrades to lighting, ventilation grilles, radiator covers, sanitaryware
- Flooring repairs
- Decoration throughout
