Project Story
Project Brief
Following the success of the completion of Rosewood Terrace, Hazelwood, Rowans & Willowvale, Willmott Dixon Interiors has revamped our fourth inpatient mental health rehabilitation unit at St Michael’s hospital, in Warwick, on behalf of Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust.
We refurbished almost 25,000 sq ft of space at Cedarwood, a rehabilitation and recovery unit, within an agreed 12-week timeline, which was was awarded via Procurement Hub Major Project Framework and delivered by a team including Fulkers Bailey Russell as Quantity Surveyor and Design Buro as principal designer.
Project Solution
We’ve added value to the Trust by applying our considerable construction expertise to each project. Budgetary constraints in public healthcare have led to knowledge gaps e.g. when a door or window is upgraded to meet anti-ligature requirements, other alterations such as removing vinyls/making good around the frame, may not be included in the scope of works. We’ve taken on additional responsibilities to ensure these works have been completed.
Our programme schedules/activities were designed to limit the disruption/risk patients were exposed to e.g. established working patterns, noisy works to set spaces, battery powered tools used wherever possible.
Project Outline
The completed anti-ligatureworks at Cedarwood has delivered:
- Replacing fire doors and loft hatches.
- The installation of a new smoke detector system.
- All ventilation grilles and radiator covers have been updated.
- The building has been redecorated throughout.
