Project Brief

We were proud to have been chosen by West Yorkshire Combined Authority to deliver the £4.6 m refurbishment of Leeds Bus Station.

The 36-week project has delivered a significant upgrade to the existing bus station, providing more modern facilities, a new retail unit and improved accessibility for passengers.  

The refurbishment of Leeds Bus Station was procured through the Scape Major Works National Framework.

Project Solution

Works were carried out while the bus station, travel centre, retail units and the adjoining Nation Express Coach Station remained in operation, with a maximum of six bus bays taken out of use at any one time.

The project was delivered by a team including WSP as project manager; Enjoy Design Ltd as architect and principal designer; and Waterman Building Services as structural engineer.

Project Outline

The completed project delivered:

  • The refurbishment of the station concourse, with contemporary, durable wall and floor finishes,
  • Replacement lighting and roof ventilation,
  • New passenger seating, and real time information displays and signage.
  • The travel centre was refurbished and made open to the concourse, while the existing drivers’ accommodation was relocated.
  • Externally, the entrance canopies were replaced with larger, more visually attractive canopies and signage.
  • New wall cladding was installed to increase visibility of the station and a ramp and steps were added to the station’s York Street entrance.

Technical Apprentice Programme

Apprenticeships are a great route into construction. At Willmott Dixon, apprenticeships are available in our business support teams and also through our supply chain partners or our sister company, Fortem, in trade disciplines such as bricklaying.

We offer some entry level positions for those who are looking to take their first steps into construction. With a paid apprenticeship you will earn while you learn and obtain a Level 3 qualification. You can apply following GCSEs; you don’t to have a construction background to complete an apprenticeship.
