Project Brief

Working on the Orbis Framework, Willmott Dixon Interiors delivered demolition works and a full strip out of the former Portslade school building, as well as some structural interventions and external remedial works and repairs. New M&E services were installed, with parts of the building segregated through new access control doorways.

Project Solution

The move allows the relocation of council staff from underused office space on a site at Moulsecoomb, which has been earmarked for the development of more than 200 new council homes.

The works retained the current configuration of the internal rooms as far as possible to avoid large scale structural alterations. Access control doorways were installed to segregate parts of the building due to the sensitive nature of the customer.

Alongside this work, we have enhanced the natural environment by delivering biodiversity net gain. This involved overall enhancement of habitats within the external area of the project, based on recommendations by an ecologist that assessed the area and produced a bespoke ecological design strategy. A range of measures to enhance biodiversity in the area have been recommended and implemented.

Technical Apprentice Programme

Apprenticeships are a great route into construction. At Willmott Dixon, apprenticeships are available in our business support teams and also through our supply chain partners or our sister company, Fortem, in trade disciplines such as bricklaying.

We offer some entry level positions for those who are looking to take their first steps into construction. With a paid apprenticeship you will earn while you learn and obtain a Level 3 qualification. You can apply following GCSEs; you don’t to have a construction background to complete an apprenticeship.
