Project Brief

We were appointed to deliver the £1.6M refurbishment for the University of Westminster to provide multi-purpose space for students. The project was procured through the Southern Construction Framework.

Our specialist team refurbished the ground and lower ground floors at the university’s building at 115 New Cavendish Street, London W1. The project has delivered 8,500 sq ft of flexible and engaging space across 8 weeks within the building’s CSE Innovation Centre.

Project Solution

The space has been designed to switch use between a 40-seater programming lab with clustered group work areas and an exhibition area for open days, outreach, and other collaborative work. It will also be used to showcase student work, research posters sessions, and presentations, and act as additional meeting space. Computing labs on the ground and lower ground floors were also reconfigured, including upgrades to MEP and lighting.

On the ground floor, three existing rooms have been repurposed to create a new, single, and accessible open plan area for work-based learning, with non-structural walls removed to enlarge the space.

The building benefits from a new heating and cooling system, improving its thermal efficiency, as well as new lighting, flooring and stackable furniture, and a new AV system, including the latest display technology for wireless projection.

Technical Apprentice Programme

Apprenticeships are a great route into construction. At Willmott Dixon, apprenticeships are available in our business support teams and also through our supply chain partners or our sister company, Fortem, in trade disciplines such as bricklaying.

We offer some entry level positions for those who are looking to take their first steps into construction. With a paid apprenticeship you will earn while you learn and obtain a Level 3 qualification. You can apply following GCSEs; you don’t to have a construction background to complete an apprenticeship.
