Project Story
Project Brief
Willmott Dixon Interiors has delivered the reconfiguration and refurbishment of a government office building in Central London that has modernised amenities for NHS staff.
The customer required an update to their building to improve accessibility and consistency across all floors.
This project was was designed by our in-house Interior Design team.
This is the fifth project we have delivered for the customer, following the transformation of three floors of Quarry House, a landmark office building in Leeds.
Project Solution
Existing toilet blocks have been stripped out and updated throughout the nine-storey building, to provide new male, female, and gender neutral disabled WCs, that are compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
Low level sinks and zip taps have been installed within newly refurbished tea points on the first, second and third floors, and adaptations have been made to the building’s existing mechanical and electrical system.
The refurbishment was carried out in a live office environment so a phased approach was carried out to reduce disruption to building users, including NHS operational and administrative teams.
Delivering in Central London brought challenges in access restrictions, we adopted a flexible working pattern to suit the demands of the project regarding deliveries. This ensured that the building remained safe and operational at all times.
The new DDA-compliant amenities will greatly enhance the workplace experience for staff and visitors at Wellington House. The same high-quality design has been implemented throughout, bringing tea points and WCs up to a consistently good standard.
Project Outline
- Improved the space to be DDA compliant.
- Work was completed within a live environment with no disruption to building users.
- Accessibility and consistency improved on all 9 floors.
